WELLINGTON REGATTA.

YACHT RACES TO-MORKQW.

ISCA FAVOURITE FOR THE SECOND

CLASS RACE,

(BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

Wellington, this day. Old residents agree that so much interest was never centred in any regatta hitherto held here aa is being evinced in to-morrow's contests. Tho visiting yachts are lying between tho wharves, and all day long crowds of people are to be seen intently watching operations on board. The weather during the pesb few days has been- very light, and boats have been able to sport all their kites when out for a spin. The Isca, which is tho favourite for the second-class championship, had the misfortune to break her rudder head \vh'3n coming off the slip, and great difficulty is being experienced in getting it replaced. There ie not sufficient water to put her on the slip again, and owing to the easterly swell it ia not Bafe to beach her at the present time. The old rudder is still in and unless it can be taken out she will be unable to start.

Now that fair-play men ure to be placed on board all the yachts, the Mascotte's chances of winning the first-class championship have increased, as it is now certain no shifting of ballast on tha most dangerous of her rivals can take place. Tho visiting crows are to bo entortained at a smoke concert to-morrow.

Tbe Mapu will be shipped for Auckland on Saturday by tho Te Anau, which is to be delayed for a day. But for this alteration, the Mapu could not have reached Auckland in time for.your Regatta.

Tho Auckland boat Dream is almost bound to win tbo race for yachts not moro than 22 feet on the load line, while another craft from your port. The Bello.is more than likely to prove victorious in the open boat race.

The Pefc-also built in Auckland—has a big say in the Handicap Yacht Race. Fully half tho boats competing in tho regatta were built in Auckland. The allowances of the championship yacfct races to-morrow are:— First-class. Mascotto, scratch. Marifrana, lmin 25sec. Mima, 4iain 45sec. Second-class. Thetis, scratch. Isca, lmin 3sec. Onawe, sniin Baec. . Mapu, smih 33sec. Malniia, 9min 21sec. Carina, llmin 24sec. Jessie Logan, 12min.
