. Mr Alex. Aitkex reports.—This week three fruit and poultry sales have been held. Local fruits: Plums fco hand in largo quantities ; cherry plums, 4d to 6£d ; average, s< 3 : Rivers, early, 3d to sd, aver-
age 4d : cherries, none to hand ; peaches, largest lots sold ab from Is 2d to Is 4d per dozen ; medium size, 6d to 9d; others, od to 9d, and 3d to 54d ' per lb; apricota, 6d to IOJd per lb ; apples, Irish peach, $d to ; other large cooking, l£d to lfd ; red Astrachan, extra fine coloured, 2sd to 3|d ; medium, lid ; mothed, etc., Id to lid ; pears, Jargonelles, 3.3d to ssd : other choice dessert, 3d to 4d, according bo'size and condition ; small, Id" to l^cl; lemons, Is" Sd to 2s 5d per dozeu ; oranges, local, Is 6£d to Is 10d per dozen ; tomatoes, 3d to 4d ; grapes, Is 9d to 2a .per lb ; gooseberries, dry lots, IJ-d to 2d. Poultry : First-class tablo fowls, Is 8d to 2s,- including table roosters ; medium lots, Is 3d to Is 6d ; poor and old, Is to Is 2d ; ducks, Is 3d to Is 9d ; geese, 2s 6d to 4s 3d ; turkeys, extra heavy gobblers up to 10s each ; ordinary, 3s 6d to as 3d ; hens, 3s to 4s 9d. Shepherd's potatoes have brought 10d to 2s ; kidneys, 2s to 8s 6d ; Hobarts,2s6dto3s3d; maize dull, at 2s 2d to 2s 3d ; bran and sharps, £4 10s : wheat, none; gcirlic, totally unsaleable ; onions, in strong demand ; potatoes, -Ad to gd ; seed kinds. Id ; peas, 6d to lid per peck ; rhubarb, 2s to 3s 6d. Butter : Fresh is scarce. That to hand realised from b'd to 8d ; keg butter averages 6d, if prime and well pub up in good kegs. Eggs: The market is completely glutted. Cheese : 2£d to 4d. Bacon remarkably dull of sale. Hams : guaranteed, 6d ; others, 3d to 6d ; Canterbury, Bid to 9d.
LIVE STOCK MARKET. Messrs Hunter axd Nolan* report:— Grain, seeds, horse feed, etc. : Trade has been dull, and supplies ample, without alteration in value. Wo quote : Oats, 2s to 23 3d per bushel; maize, 2s to 2s 2d : bran, £4 103 per ton ; chafF, £2 10s to £2 15s per ton. Horses : Very few sold privately, and the auction sales are postponed until after the holidays. Wool, hides, skies, etc.: Quantities limited, without alteration in value. Cattle : There was increased animation in the market. The denmud for fat stock was brisk, and steady for dairy and store stock. Competition was steady throughout at Newmarket on Tuesday, and an average number were yarded. Beef reached fully 20s per 1001b. Some averages of fat steers were—£9 7s 6d, £S 7s, £3 9s, £7 7s 6d, £7 3s 6d, £7 3e, £S 15s Bd, £6 12s 6d, £4 17s 6d ; cows—£s i& 6d, £4, £3 17s 6d, £3 15s. Sheep were penned in moderato numbers at Kewtnarkst on Tuesday, competition wa» good, at the previous week's values : Wethers sold from 10s to 14s 6d each ; ewes, 10s to 11s 3d ; mixed sexes, 10a 6d to 14s 6d ; lambs, 5s to 13s 3d. Pig 3 : Young porkere sold at from 173 to 21s each.
Altked Buckland and Sons report , : — During the pasc week there has been no horse sale. Fodder brought forward in limited quantity was at late values. On Tuesday hides were in fair inquiry. Ox hides from 2*d to 4id ; cow bides, lid to 2d ; calfskins, up to 6fd the lb : bones, 4s 6d ; tallow, 16s 6d theewt. A considerable number of bags and dumps of wool occasioned good competition. Fleece wool brought from to ; pieces, 4d to 6d ; locks, 3d to 4d the lb. The Pukekohe monthly sale, consec(uent on the holidays, waa held on Wednesday. There was a large muster of cattle, and a full attendance of buyers. Calves and youns cattle were better wortb. Dairy cows were also in fair demand.
