Turc Vagrant Act.—Ellen Clara Isherwood was charged with having insufficient lawful means of support.—Mr Mndden appeared for the defence.—Detectives Kirby and Hughes gave evidence to the effect thabthe defendant was a prostitute.—Alexander Mackay deposed that the defendant was his sister-in-law, that) he was supporting her lately, and that? she had been leading a good life 1. tely. She was about to ba married. —To Mr Broham : Witness and his wife had been, before the Court lately for keeping a disorderly house, and defendant was charged with having been an inmate of the house.—> Mr Bishop said that the evidence of the detectives was sufficient. He sentenced the accused to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. Pktty Lap-ceny.—George Powley, a small boy aped 13, was charged with having stolen a quantity of zinc valued at 7s Gd, the property of Margaret Clarke, on the y Ist inst. The boy pleaded guilty.—■ Inspector Broham asked that the boy should be sent to the Industrial School, as it wa? a pity to see him leading a vagrant life such as he did. There werethree convictions already recorded againab him. — The Magistrate committed the accused to the Kohimarama Industrial School, to be kept there until tho age of 15, and to be brought up in the Roman Catholic faith. Vagrancy.—William Thompson, an old man, was charged with having no lawful visible means of support at Newmarkets.— A plea of guilty was entered—Mr Bishop said_ there was along list of previous convictions against the accused. He was found sleeping out at Newmarket.—The man \va3 sentenced to three months' imnvisoamontj with hard labour. Morns Vagtiakts.— Five small children, named Elizabeth Mackay faged 12), Kurh Miiud Mackay (§), Jessie M.'ickoy (7), ftobert George Mackay, and James Mackay, were brought beiore the Court on remand, on a charge of a breach of the Industrial Schools Act, b> being found to reside with a person, known to bo a prostitute. Tho facts of this case huve been already published. Mr Madden appeared for the defence.—The W.M. committed the children to the Industrial School, till the age of 15, to be brought up in tho Roman Catholic faith. Stuayino Cattle.—Thomas Hoaley waa fined Is nrifl costs for alloiving a cow to stray in Newmarket. Henry Wood, for allowing throe cows to ptray in Manukau Road, was fined 5s and costs. For a similar offence John C. Finlay was fined Is and costs. Failing to .Support.—Thomas Elliott wa« charged with having failed tc contribute towards the support; of lu3 wife, Elizabeth Elliott, unci child.—Tho case wan adjourned until to-morrow morning thg i d'jfendunb plerding; v.ct ijuilty.
