Murray, relieving teacher, to temporary charge or Waiorongomai School during illness or head tnacher. The report further stated that Colonel T. H. Smith had been referred to the regulation limiting age of candidates for junior scholarships, that Mr £.11. Chapman had been referred to the committee for copy of report of standard examination of school, and that Mr U. M. Plumin had been informed in answer to inquiry that the . now standard regulations will supersede the. present regulations from the 31st of December, IG9I. The salaries of assistant teachers (E3, six years' service) Misses L. M. Browne and L. W. Bill have been increased to £60 a year. Leave of absence had been granted to the following teachers:—Miss N. M. Mulvany, Wellesloy-street, live weeks, illness ; Miss A. M. Boale, Newton East, threo days, University oxamir.ar.ion ; Miss M. E.. Ashman, Kauaeranga Girls', one week, illness ; Miss M. Maxwell, Waiokaraka, one month, illness ; Miss S. Stewart, Mount Eden, four weeks, illness ;Mr E. N. Ormiston, Waiorongomai. 3 weeks, illness; Miss E. SyniJiis, Newton West, 4 weeks, illness. Several allowances tc teachers had also been made.—The report was adopted. Finance.—The Board's balances to date were read as follows : — Education fund credit, £9,317 Ss; building fund credit, £1,005 14s 10d ; total, £10,821 23 10d. Girls' High School credit, £59 2s 6d. Vote fok Buildings.—The Minister of Education, wrote that v distribution of the votes for school buildings, amounting to £52,500, had been made, based partly upon the population of the educational districts according to the last census, and partly upon tho increase of population and spread of settlement in each during the past five years ; special consideration having been given to tho exceptional circumstances of some of the smaller districts. The share of tho Auckland Board amounts to £5,435. The Chairman asked that £5, 000 of the amount be transferal from ' the maintciiaiice fund account to the building uiud account. It I was for tho sake of keeping tho books in I the ofSco right, and merely an adjustment !of accounts. —It was resolved that the ! Chairman's request be acceded to. A Petition.—Mr- George Green waited on tho Board and presented a petition from tho residents and settlci-3 of Dairy Flat being householders in the Pukeatua j school district asking the Board to grant a separate school for Dairy Flab, and pointing out that a central school would not meet the requirements of both districts.—The Chairman stated that Una matter had been deferred for three months. Several members wore anxious to visit tho district, and inquire into the who la matter.— It was rosolvecl tiiat the petition would be considered when tho committee visited Dairy Flat. Grants.—lt was decided to grant £12 for ropnirs to tlio Napier-street school ground. Korthcote : Two-thirds cost wero granted for necessary repairs. .An application for swings foir tho Newmarket school was declined, but it was agreed to provide parallel and horizontal bars. Application for fencing Ponsonby school: Two-thirds of tho cost was granted. Dovouporfc school : An application for Venetian blinds was referred to. Mi' Allrighfc. Establishment oy HuuooTjS. —Tho report of the Inspsator was read recommoding the establishment of a school at Araparara (Kaipara). Ib was agreed to establish tho Kohuol and that the necessary steps be taken to secure the land.— Huanui (Whangarci) : It wai3 resolved thafc if the Whareoro residents agree on n central site, the Board will erect the building. Ikk Powders.—Several complaints wero received about; tho ink powders and ink supplied by tho contractors. —Mr Cooper stated that some ink ho had seen was like "muddy water." He proposed, and it was carried :—" That tho contractors be informod of the complaints,,and that if tho contract is not stricciy kept the Board will enforce the penalties and cancel the contract.' , , Eden Tekkace. —The application tor a new school ab Eden Terrace was referred to the Executive.Committee. TeaOHßßS.—Several applications for employment and removal of teachers were dealt with. Fbekuand and Model Djkawino.— ine number ot entries received for the Auckland Society of Arts freehand and model drawing examination in December, 1891, was read. The total numbers were : — Freehand drawing, 1,159; model, 354. Among the city and suburban schools,_ the largest number of entries were received from the Devonporb School.
