THE SCHOONER IVANHOE.
A MAIDEN CRUISE
Last evening the new locally-owned top sail schooner Ivanhoe, 150 tons, returned to port from her firsb voyage, a trip down to Karotonga under charter to Donald and Edenborough, bringing up from the Hervey Group a largo cargo of copra, pearlshell, coffee, lisneiuice, orange.", etc., besides some passengers. Captain J. Matthews reports an uneventful round trip. The Ivanhoe, which was launched hero a couple of months ago by Mr George Niccol, of the Worth Shore, lett Auckland, it will be remembered, ireah from the builder's yard, with cargo for Karotonga, arri yin g there after a passage of 17 day 3. She discharged at Avaitu harbour, and loaded up again there with general produce, including transshipments from the schooner Torea. The return trip was made in 13 days, the schooner leaving Rarotonga on the 30th vlb- She experienced light, easterly winds and calms to Sunday Island (sighted 11th inst.), where she was becalmed a day. Thence fresh north-west to westerly breezes were had to port. Capb. Matthews states that the little schooner behaved remarkably well on her maiden trip proving herself bo be a very handy craft and a stable sea boat, besides possessing a eood turn of speed. Amongst her cargo from Rarotonga, is a quantity of wreckage from the crocked American schooner Vanderbilfc, lost in the Hervey Group recently. The Ivanhoe .discharges her copra into the barque Helen Denny, for JjODCIOD.
