OUR EXPORT TRADE.
A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE.
Mk Gißß_, General, Secretary to the New Zealand Shipping Company, has favoured ua with an interesting tabular statement, detailing the total exports in all branches of produce from New Zoaland for Home, otc, for the year ended July Ist lasb. The hst, which wo print below, is carefully drawn up, and shows exactly the amount of New Zealand produce sent away during the year. In the exports from Auckland, especially, a v ery gratifying increase is noticeable. Tor the year ended July, 1891, for instance, the vessels which loaded here for London totalled 7,127 net tonnage, a3 against 6,202 for the previous twelve months; and 20,-59 frozen carcases, weighing 1,094,7821b, were exported from this port to London during tho last year, as against 8,284 carcases (473,2131b) for tho previous " year. Of frozen beef, 2,007 pieces and quarters, weighing 323,0001b, wore exported, ao-ainsb 352 pieces beef (weighing 59,8581b) for the previous year. In the other principal lines bhe increases aro shown by the following comparisons of exports :—Kauri gum (1891), 16,292 cases; 1890 (nob shown, but considerably less). Wool and skins (1891), 10,426 bates ; (1890), 7,550 bales. Casks tallow and pelts (1891), 1,873; (1890), 1,792. The only falling off shown is in undressed flax, of which only 4,334 bales wore exported during the year as against 8,153 bales for the previous year. Several new export brancheß have been opened up during the year, including- the' shipping of fruit direct to London in cool chambers, as well as butter and cheese. "In all, it"will bo seen, during the year 1,410 cases of ftuih, 3S tons of cheese, and-127- tons of butter wero sent away from hero during the period specified :—
