NEW YORK SHIPPING.
Regarding tho Australian and New Zealandtrade from New York, Messrs Arkell, of New York, remark in fcheir market reporb of the 23rd vlb, :—«'The 'Trust,' continue to keep the berth covered for the various ports by arrangement among themselves, bub as for over a year there have been bub two vessels loading for any special port at once that is the A..A.S. Co. L'd., ship and the ' Trust' boat, it will readily be seen there are but two lines forthe colonies, and not a Cameron line, a Mailler line, a Peabody line, and an Arnold line, as said firms would like to have the public think. The ' Trust ' have lately reduced rates considerably, which was more than warranted by cheaper vessels, and to-day are carrying, , cargo ab from le. to 2c. under charter. I'heir purpose is very evident that they wish to have the Australasian importers think that to their credit should stand the cheap rates ; but we think they are carrying the matter rather too far, and in making rates way under charter—which will be known to all, as parties in interest cannot be deceived— that such methods will in due course react on themselves, as it shows a tendency to manipulate, and proves a desire to control the carrying trade, which we doubt if the colonial merchants will again sanction, having the past experience of high rates still in their memory."
