AUCKLAND FRUIT IN LONDON.
In an interesting letter received by us by the 'Frisco mail from London, from Captaia William Ash by, shipping agent, very well known in Auckland, thab gentleman cays, speaking of the export trade of New Zealand to London in fruit and other produce :—" I had a look over the New Zealand Shipping Company's cargo steamer Mamari when she arrived here on May 15th from Auckland, and watched the unloading of her fruib, cheese, etc It was net a favourable day for landing fruit, butter, etc., for ib was very trying coming out of the cool chamber then to be landed in the shed on one of the hottest) days we have had since last July, the thermometer being over 80 degrees. I wa» very pleased to see how well all the fruit) was packed. The cheese and butter also did the New Zealand people great credit. Then, again, ib was very pleasing to see the Auckland flax landed. Some of it would do credit to Manila hemp, and was the beab I have seen come here for a very long time. As we spent the whole afternoon in the warehouse and on board, we could form a very good idea how things were being landed for the London market. Ib was a pity the fruit could nob have been here a month earlier. Ib would then have fetched 30 per cent, better prices. I hope you will be able next ueason to send some of your fine apples to this market, bub they ought to reach here the middle of April te get the top prices- As Tasmania can do so, I do nob see why the North Island ot New Zealand cannot do likewise."
