THE STAR CIRCULATION.

ACCOUNTANTS' CERTIFICATE.

63,W8 COPIES WEEKLY,

THE LARGEST CIRCULATION IN NEW ZEALAND.

The decrease in city population dieclosed by the recent census haa suggested to us the propriety of having an audit! made by independent accountants infeo the condition of the Star circulation. The resul" has boon even more satisfactory than Wq had anticipated. The loss of 6,000 in the population of Auckland city and euburba has, of course, prevented growth of circulation in the city, bub there has been a steady increase in the country districts. Wherever there is daily communication the people are no longer contenb to take their news a week old ;■ and oven in places liko Whangarei, which have regular steam communication with the city, the penny daily newspaper has beconjo an institution which every intelligent settlei haa learned to appreciate, and wil! on no consideration relinquish. H« finds it paya him, even if only by the fresh information be obtains of the course of th< markets, and the current businessannounce ments. Throughout the existence of the Star we have always held that an advertiser is as much entitled to be furnished with bona fide information regarding the return given for hie money by a newspaper as he claims when dealing with any other commodity, and the Star hae always been conducted upon that principle. In nothing is the businese man more imposed upon than in the paymonls he makes for advertising through mediums which give him no substantialroturn. The appended atatomenb, which we have thie day received from Messrs John Waymoufch and F. G. Ewington, will, w® believe, give satisfaction to our wide circle of business supporters. It shows thab the Stab circulation still exceeds that of any other daily newspaper in New Zealand by nearly 3,000 copies daily :—

Wβ hereby certify that we liave carefully examined the books, and inquired into the issue of the "Auckland Star" newspaper, aad find that the net daily circulation for t he four calendar months ending 30th April hist, has averaged 10,613 copies daily, or 63,703 copies weekly.
