NEWTON SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
MONDAY NIGHT'S MEETING.
The annual meeting of householders of tba Newton Schools Committee takes place on. Monday night next. The report to be preeonted by the Committee, drawn up byMr J. M. French, the segretiu-y, congratulates Mr Coates and the teachers' staff for the efficient manner in which the Newton East School is conducted, and favourable mention is also made of Mr Webber and the staff of the Newton Westj School. The number of scholars on the roll of the Newton East School is 684, and the average attendance 573. In the Newton West School the scholars number 573, nnd the average at. tendance 491.' During the year threeJunior District Scholarships were obtained, and one certificate .of proficiency." George Lambton Gladding was also successful in obtaining one of th& two vacant Rawlings scholarships. The percentage of passes in the standard examinations was 87 in the Newton East School, and in the Newton West 89. The report further states thati the Board of Education have altered theboundaries of the Newton school districts so as to include that portion of the provincial district of Auckland which is bounded by the school districts of Ponsonby, Nowton and Point Chevalier, and further states that a number of alterations hare been made in the old school, Newton East. The number of pupils in both schools in the district is I.SJ-'j'?, and the average attendance 1,064. The accounts show a credit balance of £81 11s 9d. 'ihirteen committee meetings have been held during the year. The roport altogether is a creditable and elaborate one, and reflects credit on the compiler, Mr J. M. Frensh.
