MEASURING PONIES.
The Victorian Racing Club Committee has decided that all ponies racing ab meetings held under V.R.C. rules must be measured under the supervision of the stipendiary steward, Mr Harrie Smith. The measuring will be conducted in accordance with the rules of the Calcutta Turf Club, which read as follows :— 1. No horse (or pony) shall be allowed more than 15 minutes in which to be measured. 2. When measuring no allowance shall be made for shoes. 3. Every horse shall be held by some person or persons deputed by the persons conducting the measuremenb, and shall nob be touched by anyone else without thoir express permission. 4. During measurement the horse shall stand stripped, with his head and body in tbe same line. 5. The head shall be so held thab a line from the poll to the withers would be parallel to the measuring floor, 6. The forelegs from the point of the shouider, and the hind legs from the back downwards, shall bo as perpendicular to the ground, and as parallel to each other, na the conformation of each horse admits of. 7. The wither may bo shaved, bub the mane must nob be pulled down, or the skin of the neck or the wither interfered with in any way. 8. The measurement shall bo made ab the highest point of bhe withers with a standard of the Jockey Club pattern, and the horse shall stand on a platform, or on ground which has been ascertained to be perfectly level.
