THE GEELONG RACES.
Auckland-bred horses wore to the for 6 at the Geelong Meeting. Kneecap, who was purchased by Mr W. R. Wilson after winning a couple of hurdle races ab the Auckland Summer Meeting of 1889-90, but proved a disappointmenb to Mr Wilson, and was sold to the Hon. D. S. Wallace, won the Hurdles. He was trained by W. Krafb, formerly of Auckland. A walk-over took place for the Geelong Foal Stakes, nothing opposing Enuc, and only three came to bhe post for the Steeplechase—bhe New Zealand Coral, the South Australian Emlie, and the Sydney Trickebt. Coral soon came to grief, and gave Paddy McGowan a very nasty fall, as he was much bruised and abrased, besides spraining his left wrisb. Wise) 3 Simplebon, 5 years, list 101b (Kain): Coral, 6 years, 9sb 101b (McGowan); Stampede, 4 years, 9sb 61b (F. Holman); and Cocoanut, aged, 9sb (Simpson), also ran. Betting—7 to 4 against Simpleton, 4 to 1 Killaloe, 9 to 2 Coral, 5 bo 1 Kneecap. After passing the firsb obsbacle in company Kneecap and Woolbrook took command and led past the stand and round bhe turn, with Simpleton and Killaloe nexb. Down the side the favouribe had A Btrong lead and maintained it to the'
bushes, where he commenced jumping very slovenly, and consequently lost a lob of ground. Killaloe now book command and leb into the straight. At the distance Kneecap came out, and, going very strongly, won comfortably by nearly three lengths from Killaloe, nexb bo whom came Woolbrook only a longbh away, and then Coral, Cocoanub, and Stampede, with thefavouribe last. Time, 3min 7sec. Trial Stakes, of lOOsovs ; second, lOsovs. For maiden horses. Weight for age. One mile. Mr W. R. Wilson's bl f Coova, by Nordenfeldt — Radiance, 2yrs, 6st 51b (Wisby) ... 1 Mr J. Wilson' 3br m Peggy, 4vrs, Bsb lllb(Moore) ". ... 2 Hon. D. S. Wallace's br c Werong, 3yrs, Bsfc4ib (Mllroy) ... .... 3 Sunspob, 3yrs, Bst 41b (Power), and Aster 2yrs, 6sb 81b (Holmes), also started. Betting—2 to 1 against Aster, 3to I Cooya, 4 to 1 Sunspob, 5 bo 1 Peggy, bunspot was firsb away. Peggy led into the burn, and appeared to be winning comfortably, bub Cooya moved out from the ruck at bhe distance, and, cabching the leader half way from home, won cleverly by three-quarters of a length, Werong, Aster, and Sunspob following. Time, lmin 47sec. Geelong Cup, a handicap of 300sovs (lOOsovs being the gift of the stewards), and a lOOsovs trophy, the gifb of Mr W. R. O'Neill) ... ... ..! 3 Also ran: Swing, Bsb (Moore) ; King William, 7sb 121b (Hales); Wattle, 7sb 121b (Tomlin); Kneecap, 7sb 71b, carried 7sC 81b (Power); Emancipation, 7sb lib (W. Osborne); Abergyle, 6sb 81b (A. Whitehead) ; and Pingara, 6st 81b (West). Betting : 5 to 2 against Tarcoola, 4 to 1 King William, 7 to 1 Tantallon or Wattle, 10 to 1 Kneecap, Forest King, Abergyle, or Pingara. In the straight Tantallon assumed the lead, and pulling double, waltzed away from his opponents, having everything in trouble at the distance post and winning easily by three lengths from Tarcoola, who came with a very groat rush the last half furlong, and deposed Forosb King from claiming second money. Ib was a very elope chjng for third place between Forest King, Pingara, and King William, and bhen ab inbervals followed Wabble and Swing, the last to pass bhe posb being Kneecap, Abergyle, and Emancipabion.
