MOTUTAPU.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —If I may presume on your valuable space, I should like bo say a few words regarding bhe conducb of some ot bhe pleasureseekers who choose to spend their holidays ab Motutapu. During the recent Orange picnic to Mr Reid's popular result larrikinism was predominant, inasmuch as regards the robbing of his orchard, shooting his turkeys, hares, etc., and otherwise disturbing the equanimity of the island in general and turning things topsy-turvy. When one takes into consideration the kindness of Mr Reid in allowing the picnickers the opportunity of spending their holidays there, and otherwise attending to their every little want and comfort, regardless of personal inconvenience, it is indeed hard to find that some of them cannob conducb themselves with propriety, and keep within the boundary of honesty to their kind host. Such offenders should be dealt with very severely, and we are afraid thab Mr Reid aebs too leniently in, such cases. Hoping that this will act as a warning to offenders, who will, if they carry on as at present, cause the closing of the island to visitors, a most regrettable action (though under existing circumstances a necessary one), and thus cause bhe loss of pleasure to the many for the misdoings of the few, —I am, etc., Anti-Destructive.
