POLICE COURT—THIS DAY.
(Before Dr. J. Giles, R.M.)
Drunkenness. — One first offender was fined 5s or 24 hours in default. Joseph Reilly was fined 20s and costs or 48 hours for being drunk and £2 10s for breaking windows belonging to Peter McArthur.
Larceny.—Letitia Hughes plended guilty to stealing one shirt value 2s 6d on the 25th of January, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour.
Absconding. — Thomas Weston was charged with having absconded from the Industrial School. He pleaded guilty.— Sergeant-Major Pratt statod thab the lad had been apprenticed at Port Albert, but ran away and was found at Whangarei.— His Worship ordered him back to school again. Destitute Persons.—W. A. Marflitt was called to answer the charge of having failed to provide support for his children. Defendant deposed that he had left a sum of money in the hands of his employer for the family.—Mr Strathjarn said that was satisfactory, and the case was adjourned.
Affiliation Case.—Wm. Tollas was charged with failing to provide support for bhe illegitimate child of Sarah Jane Patrick, bub denied the paternity. Evidence was given by the complainant, and by Moßdames Margaret Agnes Dempsey, Anna Jones, and the further hearing of the case was adjourned till nexb Tuesday.
