THE HOBARTVILLE SALE.
Full particulars are to hand by the s.s* Te Anau this morning of the annual sale of thoroughbred, trotting, and draught stock at the Hobartville stud. The pick of the trotting stock was a strapping colt by Childe Harold 'imp.) from imported Kentucky Maid, showing plenty of quality, which brought the top price of two hundred and five guineas, the bid of Mr B. Keys. For the yearlings, the highest prices were obtained for the progeny of Trenton, a well-grown colt from Paquita (a daughter of Epigram from imported (Jadeau) topping the market at 600 guineas, the bid of Mr T. Payten, acting on behalf of Mr VV. K. Wilson, of St. Albans, Victoria. The colt bears a strong likeness to his relative, Carbine, and justifies his aristocratic patronage by showing plenty of quality. Mr James Monaghan gave 560 guineas for a handsome and epeedy-looking gentleman by Trenton from Geraldine (dam of Moorehouse), who elicited spirited competition. A shapely colt by Grand Flaneur from Telescope found a purchaser in Mr T. Daly for 500 guineas ; and a slashing colfc by Trenton from imported Mona was knocked down to Mr Duggan for 410 guineas. Mr J. Monaghan, on behalf of a Queensland sportsman, paid 105 guineas fora youngster by Segenhoe from imported Peril, and 285 guineas purchased a goodlooking son of Trenton and Ennui for Mr C. Baldwin, of Manilla. Crossfire's colt by Grand Flaneur brought 240 guineas, the bid of Mr John Brown, and 10 guineas less secured a handsome bay colt by Grand Flaneur, from Auray, for Mr J. Monaghan. Mr Flanagan, a local sportsman, purchased a son of Trenton and imported Cadeau, and a chestnut by Grand Flaneur from Parapluie ; and Mr Fetherstonhaugb, of Corello, got a bargain in a well-turned son of Sardonyx and Meditation for 120gs. The 36 youngsters catalogued realised 5,420g_5, or an average of 1504 guineas—a decided improvement on the sale of lasfa year, when the average for the colts was only 103£ guineas. The thoroughbred brood mares were the last to engage the attention of buyers. The best figure was given lor imported Lady Blair, who fell to the nod of HrP. Heffernan for 145 guineae, Mt J.
Allsop purchased Goldsbrough's sister, Sylvan, with ally, by imported Somnus, at foot, for 120 guineas, and he also annexed Moneta, by VTabtendon, for 60 guineas. The mares brought a total of 945 guineas, or an average of 72| guineas ; and the whole proceeds of the sale amounted to 7,618 guineas.
