A WILD BULLOCK.
James Byers was charged at the Police Court this morning before Dr. J. Gilea, R.M., with having on the 12th of November at Mount Roskiil committed a breach of bhe Police Offences Act by allowing 13 head of cattle to wander ab large in a public -Mr' Devore appeared for accused, and pleaded not guilty. • James Byers was further charged with having on the 12bh of November at Mount Roskiil permitted 13 head of cattle to be wifchoufeproper guidance. Mr Devore pleaded guilty to this charge, and Sergeant-Major Prabb withdrew the previous information. Mr Devore said that the facts of the case were, that early on the morning in question Mr Byers sent the I3head ofcatbletowardsthe WesfcernSprings in the charge of two competent men. On the way one of the bullocks became wild and gored a horse so badly thab the cattle were turned into a paddock and a messenger dispatched to Newmarket for assistance. Before this arrived the cattle broke out of the paddock. Twelve were recovered, but the 13th went and drowned himself. No damage appeared to have been done, and he hoped the Bench would inflict a nominal penalty. Sergeanfe-Major Pratb said thab those were pretty well the factß of the case. 1 His Worship asked if anyone had been endangered. Sergeanb-Major Pratt replied that one individual had been chased by the bull. j His Worship said than no doubt the practice of driving cattle in public roads at
day time was a very dangerous one, but that was of course a matter for regulation by the local Board. He would inflict) a fine of 20s and costs 17s.
