AUCKLAND CITY.

Mr W. J. Napier will address the City electors to-morrow (Wednesday) evening at 8 o'clock in Sb. James's Hall, Wellingfeonetreefc, not in the Academy of Music, as previously advertised in error. .Mr T. Thompson, M.11.R. for Auckland Ifiorth in the late Parliament, will address the electors of the City, for which ho is one ef the candidates, ab St. James's Hall this fjveninir. , Mr H. W. Farnall, one of the candidates for the City, intends to address the electors ab the Foresters' Hall, Newton, tomorrow evening. The following is a copy of the requisition to Mr J. M. Shera requesting him to conaenb to nomination for the city in the Liberal interest, together with Mr Shera's reply :— To J. M. Shera, Esq. : Dear sir,—We t6e undersigned electors of the city of Auckland beg: to request you to allow yourielf to be nominated as a Liberal candidate for Auckland. Wβ have long recognised and admired your devotion to the principles of progress with which the revered name of Sir George Grey has been identified, and now, when our beloved leader is temporarily incapacitated by an illness which we all deplore, we trust you will see your way to accept a nomination, which we "are sure would give him very great pleasure. We pledge ourselvea is do cur utmost to secure your return." ?fae. requisition is signed by William J. Beehan, R. J. Duncan and many others. The following is Mr Shera's reply :— ■."Auckland, 25th November, 1890. To Messrs William Beeban, R. J. Duncan and the gentlemen signing the requisition. Dear sirs-—ln response to the influential requisition with which you have honoured we to become a candidate in the Liberal interest for one of the Auckland city seats on account of the lamented enforced retirement of Sir George Grey, through severe sickness, I comply with your request on the understanding that I ehall, if elected, be free to resign my trust into the hands of the electors as soon as Sir George feels able to resume his position as the leader and representative of the people.—Yours very truly (signed) J. M. Shera."
