SIR GEORGE GREY.
RETIREMENT JTROM POLITICS.
ILL-HEALTH THE CAUSE
We are authorised to make the announcement to the public of Auckland and of the colony generally thab Sir George Grey has determined to retire from political life. This determination of Sir George's has not been arrived ab without anxious thought on his part, and it is only tho feeling that his ill-health absolutely forbids worry that has caused him to corno to such a decision.
In Wellington last session the veteran statesman contracted a severe cold, which has brought on an anback of bronchitis. It waa against the wish of his medical adviser (Dr. liaines) that Sir Georgo gave his lasb public address. Since that time his health has been worno tho.n before ; and during the last few daya all visitors havo been forbidden his presence. He has indeed for some days been confined to his bed ; only rising for a for,' minutes of oaoh day. Sir George fools himself far'too unwell to think of writing any address to the people on hh retirement. His feelings are aa strong a3 ever, but the woakness of hia body ia too great for any exertion. He considers that he would be sacrificing his life if he again went to Wellington. He can stand no worry, and, yielding to the wishes of his medical adviser and friends, he has finally decided to avoid the chance of it.
