MR RALPH STEWART AND THE ONEHUNGA MEETING.
(To the Editor. )
Sir,—According to your morning contemporary's report of Friday's meeting of the Board of Education, a member of that body stated that "Mr Stewart . . . made some remarks about salaries not being more than sufficient, and about there being no need to retrench further." These words were repeated and emphasized in a cub-leader. Will you kindly, in justice to myself, allow me to say : 1. That I did not, either verbally or in substance, say anything of the sort. 2. That I have not from any public platform made the slightest reference to either education or retrenchment. 3. That in your report of the meeting in question, published in your issue of the 23rd ulb., no such statement is attributed to me. A reference to the Star's files, and, if necessary, to the reporter's notes, will prove the truth of the above. I have further to add that such words do not accurately represent my opinions, and that 1 am quite at a loss to understand why they should be credited to me.—lam, etc., Ralph D. Stewart. Onehunga, 3rd November.
