WELLINGTON.
Mr Robert Winter, city candidate, addressed a meeting last night. He wa3 opposed to the presenb Government, and expressed himself in favour of a graduated or progressive land tax, and would strongly support a protective policy. He would like to see the Legislative Council made elective. The present system of education should be retained in its entirety. All disputes between capital and labour should be referred to arbitration, by which means strikes and lockouts would be avoided. The candidate received a vote of cofindence. Mr C. E. Willeston has decided nob. to contest the ciby.
