W. H. Reeves opened his election campaign last night by addressing a meeting of about four hundred at Sydenham. He' said the time had come for a reform of the Legislative Council. He deprecated tho strikes, but said he believed in unionism. He supported a land and income tax as against a property tax. The meeting was most orderly, and a vote of thanks, and confidence was passed unopposed. , . Mr Edwin Blake, candidate for Avon, addressed a meeting at Papanni last night. Ho did not pledge "himself to either supporters or opponents of the Government, bub would support any measures for the good of the country by whomsoever introduced. He received a vote of thanks and confidence.
