BARRICADING THE WHARVES. \, During to-day large crowds of people eager to see what was going on visited the of Quay-street jetty, bub only those who had business on the wharf wero allowed to pass beyond a wooden barrier erected by a num- •" ber of Harbour Board workmen ab the land w end of the jebby. There was no excitement i e or disturbance, and things were very quiot for the unusual number of people watching discharging operations. •y Ab ben o'clock this morning a number 10 of the Harbour Board workmen started the erection of a wooden barricade le some six feeb high, with sufficient space g open for wheeled traffic, across the head of jt the Queen-street Wharf. This precaution s, is taken in the event of there being any ib great rush of people to the wharf in anticii- pation of trouble when a Union Company's a steamer comes alongside. 3- A large number of town police were pre- . sent during to-day on the Quay-street it Wharf, guarding the barricade, and Inn spector Broham was also presenb, bub is there was no sign of any disturbance. )f ■
