THE CHINESE QUESTION.
PUBLIC MEETING J.N WELLINGTON. H A public meeting will be held ab Wellington to-morrow ovening to discuss the Chinese question, and addresses will be delivered by Sir Gooi;ge Grey, Mr Hutchison (M.H.R.), Rev. J. Berry, and the officers of the Federated Trades Council. Resolutions will be proposed affirming that the practically free admission of Chinese into this . colony is likely to lead to grave consequences of a social jtild financial character ajb ho distant date, and should ba prohibited by law ; thab the restricted competition of cheap Chinese labour with free European labour §'t serious injury to every true citizen. Laid the residence of a number of Chinese incur midst is apt to prove demoralising t|ii the higheab degree. If feheso resolutions aio carried, endeavours will probably bo Jaiade to give political effect to them.
