RAILWAY SERVANTS.
TBE WHITCOMBE AND TOMBS DISPUTE. .... On Saturday evening tho members of the Auckland branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants held a special meeting ab the Britomart Hotel, in order to consider the existing dispute in the South between Mossvs Whitcombe and Tombs and the labour bodies. Much regret ■was expressed at the firm's refusal to submit ,'the dispute to arbitration. Eventually y'it was resolved: "That the members oi this Society plodge themselves not to purchase any of Messrs Whitcombo and Tombs' goods, including thoir publication in (schools, or deal with anyono who buying or selling this firm's goods, and that wa use our endeavours to induco others to do likewise." So.'.no discussion arose re an arbvcle appearing in tho daily papers on the 14th inst. .from Wellington sstting forth that if tho [railway men were to be called oub there eWould nob be a general response from the North Island. ; The meeting felt very indignant ab this report, especially as such matters had nob discussed, and tho following resolution iWas passed:—" That this meeting, on behalf of the Auckland branch, begs to conjtradict this report as being misleading to •other branches of the Society, as this have full confidence in their executive."
