A FAMOUS STALLION.

■ The cable informs us of the death of the famous English stallion Hermit. He was foaled in 1865, and went to the stud when . aix years old. Hermit's racing career was marked for the sensational Epsom Derby of •1867, run in a snow-storm, and which victory put an end to the plunging career of the ill-fated Marquis of Hastings. The Marquis went '-' broke," bub paid" his liabilities* At the stud Hermit has proved himself ,one of the greatest stallidns in the pages of the Stud Book, and the amount of money won by his progeny has been something enormous. Hermit was bred by Mr W. Blenkiron at Middle Park, Kenb, in 1864, being got by Newminsfcer from Seclusion by Tadmor, her dam Miss J3ellon by Cowl. He was purchaser! when a yearling by Mr H. Chaplin, who has owned the horse ever since. Hermit stood at the JSlankney Stud farm, Blankney, Lincoln, jand his stud fee was 250 guineas, being limited each season to five public mares.
