(BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

Aβ your renders ure aware, ior some months past the low lovel tunnel has been put in on what wag believed to be the Moa Reef, and from tho whole* distance traversed ifc has lmd asouth-oastoni underlie, whereas in the level above theunderliownsexactlyopposito, viz., north-east.. It has always been supposed that a " break " would bo met with, arid that ita course would be followed until bhe Manchester reef wfta intersected ; but to the surprise of overyone this lorjo was yesterday (Thursday) mot with Crossing the lace of the drive, nud colours of gold were freely seen through tho quartz, which also carries splendid minemls. This in itself is of importance, especially as dabs of Roid have ■ been freely seen in this reof (Manchester) ■in the winze being sunk from a level above. But etranpe to cay, it in now almost certain that the reef which has been followed in the low level tunnel has not boen the Moa, but moat likely only a dropper from it. A parcel of 31b of picked stone has been obtained from a winze on the Manchester reof and it may now with safety be predicted that in a very short time this mino will bo dividend-paying. There wan improvement in'the ground since this new croas lead came in. In sinking on No. 3 run the , reef has become more compact, and the ground showing more favourable indications of pold being met with.— Petek Keid, mine manager. •New AißUKNiA.—Fifteen pounds _of picked stone were obtained this morning from the main reef. ~ ;/' Cambria.— At No. 2 level a, drive has been started to crosscut the Nightingale lUd Mercury.—On breaking down the reef at No. 1 level it was found to be fully three feet wide, with good prospects all through, and botcer going down. Try Fluke.— Splendid crushing dirt was obtained when breaking down the hangingwall portion of the reef. Some was richer than any dirt previously obtained from tho mine It is now showing from one end to the other of the winze. The reef is atill eight feeb in width.
