TIMARU HARBOUR BOARD.
(by telegraph.—press association.)
Timaku, this day. Mr E. Acton has been re-elected Chairman of the Harbour Board. The annual report shows that trade is increasing, but the receipts have fallen £2,218 below the expenditure. A harbour rate is being collected to make this up. There is an unallocated balance of loan money, £12,312. The special harbour rate being found expensive and troublesome, the Board propose to obtain an Act to empower them to levy on the local rating body. The Engineer's annual survey of the shingle accumulation shows an advance of 48 feet in 1889, or about 5,000 cubic yards. The Chairman said they would have to set about removing or checking it soon.
