CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL.

The prize distribution to the pupils attending the Convent High School book place ab 2 o'clock this afternoon. Bishop Luck presented the prizes to the girle, and in doing so expressed himself in warm terms of praise of the manner in which they acquitted themselves in their studies, and bestowed a word of approval on the teachers for the very great

care they had taken with tho instruction oi their charges. A very attractive and enjoj'able entertainment was given by the pupils before 1 the prizes were distributed. The Misse3 Caffery, Lynch and Humphrey rendered a duet " Tancredi," prettily. Miss Little displayed her training in elocution in an address; the " Preciosa '* chorus was given with fine effect by the pupils in the room ; a quartette, " Oberon," was extremely well given by the Misses Ryan, Quinn, Evans and Leydon. Miss E. Flannery recited " The Atheist;" Misa Stephenson declaimed "Columbus" in fine style, and the Misses Caffery and Bailey gave a duet, "Tho Saucers." A recitation- entitled " Waiting," was contributed by Miss A. Caffery, and a quartette, the "Imperial Galop," by the Misses Ryan, Bond, Fergus, and Evans. Miss J. Little recited with much expression " An Irish Exile's Thoughts on Hearing His Native Songs," and the Misses Caffery and Humpbreysacquited themselves remarkably well in an instrumental duet, "The Siren's Song." The remainder of tho programme comprised a recitation, "The Cow and the Ass," by Miss F. Carrigan; racitation, " The Way to be Happy, Miss B. Graham ; a trio, "Pas Redouble," by the Miss Humphreys, A. Lynch, and Caffery ; recitation, " The Philosopher' 3 Stone," Miss A. Shanaghan ; another recitation, " An Irish Priest's Testament," by Miss J. Quinn; and a final chorus, " Fairy Voices," which was one of the most enjoyable numbers on the programme, the fairy tableaux being exceedingly pretty and fanciful. The prize-list was as follows :—Wreatha of honour for conduct: Standard "VI., A. Stephenson, G. Flannery: Standard V., Miss A. Shanaghan ; Standard 111., Mis 3 M. Corley; Standard 11., Pauline Shanaghan.

For drawing, prizes were awarded to Miss Bennett (picture, "Interlakens, Switzerland"), Mise Stspbenson, (" St. Maurice by Moonlight "J, Miss Fitzgibbon ("Bristol"), Miss Flannery ("Beddgelert"), Miss E. Graham (" The Castle of Chilto "), and Miss Humphreys ("Carnarvon Castle". For mapping, prizes were secured by the Misses Derrom, Stephenson, A. Shanaghan, B. Graham, E. Graham, G. Flannery, Mcllhone, E. Caffery, and S. Quinn. For fancy work, prizes were awarded to the Misses FitzgLbbon (cushion in Bulgarian work), Elizabeth Graham (pair oi stockings and cosy in Bulgarian work), A. Shanaghan (cushion in chenille), A. Humphreys (cushion in arrasene), E. Carrigan (drape in crewel silk), F. Carrigan (bracket in crewel silk), A. Lynch (mouchoir case), J. Quinn (bracket! and toilet casej, M. Ryan (bracket in chenille). In the recent examinations in the school, held on the 3rd, 4th and sth of December, all the standards passed with no failures,, and six secxired honours.
