OUR GOLDFIELDS

ENCOURAGING OUTLOOK FOR

THE FUTURE.

(BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

Thames, this day. I feel sure that your readers will be please" to learn that the outlook of the mining industry during the coming year is very encouraging indeed so far as the Thames goldtield is concerned, and there seems almost a certainty of a considerable improvement taking place. The decision of the Moanataiari Company's directors to continue the main tunnel until the Reuben Parr reef is intersected is a wise one, and as the tributera in the Reuben Jfan section are obtaining , rich specimen stono—especially as they go downwards—the probabilities are thab the Moanataiari Company will ha well repaid for continuing the tunnel. Then the Saxon Company are losing no time in carrying out the necessary preliminary works for opening up their new level (No. 6), and hero also thero is every likelihood of the work proving reproductive once the reef is to hand, though of course it will take a iew months to drive the new level. The prospects of the Lone Hand Company also bear a rosy hue. Capital progress ia being made with the work of putting in the low level drive, and once the reef is bo hand and driven upon, (there is every reason to believe that rich deposits of gold will be unearthed, aa good gold was left in the floor in places in the level above. A mine which promises to pay further dividends for some time to fiotne is the Waiotahi, while the New Manukau should continue to pay its way as heretofore from the amount of gold won, and should the May Queen come up to expectations, it also should come to the fore during the coming year. Operations in the Fame and Fortune mine, in the Waiotohi Creek, are being conducted by Mr Kersey Cooper, on behalf of a London syndicate with successful results, and the prospects of the Thames Mining and Prospecting Company (Sydney) have considerably improved within the past few weeks. The Cambria will most likely pay its way for some time to come, and several new private ventures which have i lately been started, such as Darrow's, Comer's, Hansen's, etc., cannot fail to result beneficially to the district. Under the whole of these circumstances there does not seem tho slightest doubt that there will be a great improvement in the mining industry during the new year upon which wo are now about to enter.

Otama Claim.—A telegram received this morning from the Otama claim, Kuaotunu, states :—Reef looking well in upper level, gold showing in face. Splendid country. Expect to get gold any minute in low level.—(Signed) H. T. RcnvK.

Blanche. — The manager continues to break out quartz from Trenboth'o leader, and has seven loads of quartz in the paddock.

Trenton - . — The mine manager and Mr Adam 3, tho Co.'a surveyor, have visited the Saxon mine at No. 5 level, and from developments there some lifctle distance will require yet to be driven to intersect the hnngingwall lode. Tho country in the Trenton drive at No. 5 level continues to be all that can be desired for gold.
