DEVONPORT ENTERTAINMENT.
An entertainment that has been looked forward to with interest for some little time was brought to a successful issue last evening at the local hall, North Shore, and in point of excellence bears favourable comparison with any previous efforts in the same direction. The audience was numerous and appreciative, receiving with applause the well-selected programme that had been provided for their delectation. The following were the items comprising the first part :—Piano duet —Overture, " Poet and Peasant," Mis E. Queree and Mr Bartley ; Gipsies' Laughing Trio, Miss Bartley, Messrs. J. Ferriday and E. Queree ; song, "The Romany Lass," Mr A. Tily ; violin solo, "II Trovatore," Mr Cooke; recital, " The Dream of Eugene Aram," Mr Montague (encored); duet (vocal), "Life's Dream is O'er," Misses Philcox and Bartley; song (comic), " The Amateur Fireman," Mr H. Bhdsall (encored); flute solo, "In My Cottage," Mr A. EUyett; song, "The Soldier's Dream," Mr J. Ferriday. The second part consisted of a well-arranged tableau in seven scenes, "The Moorish Maiden," and proved effective, whilst the concluding portion of the evening's enjoyment was the production of a brilliant little comedy. The cast ot ch«racters was as follows :---Fairfax Rendal. M • Alf. Bartley; Tom Pott?, Mr. J. A. Cooper ; Frank Seaton, Mr It. W. Comyns ; Kate Shirley, Miss Millie Queree; Sister Winifred, Mrs Ernest Queroe. The piece w,aa .w.e11., staged in every respect and reflected credit on all concerned, the adiencee being anything but slow to mark their approbation of the hisfirionic ability displayed. The proceeds of the entertainment should be tangible, and are in aid of Holy Trinity Church.
