ONEHUNGA.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the abovo Council was held in the Block House yesterday evening. Present: The Mayor (Captain M. Yates), and Crs. Jackson, Mooney, Burden, J. ShaldriGk, Austin, Tapp, and Hastie. Correspondence.—Mr A. Jones made application for a water supply. Referred to Water Committee.—Mr Pegier' Wrote drawing the attention of the Council to the state oi the footpath ip.ffont of his shop in Queen-street. Referred to Streets Committee.—The Secretary of the Auckland Gas Company wrote, offering to light the street lamps for three months, at a cost of £1 53 6d a lamp. Moved by Cr. J. Shaldrick, seconded by Cr. Tapp, "That the offer of the Gas Company to light the streets for three months be accepted." The motion was ,lost on the casting vote of the Mayor.—Mr J. Robinson wrote offering- to light the street lamps with kerosene at a cost of £45 a-year.—The matter was referred back to the writer for particulars.r—The Secretary of the Public School Committee wiote offering to pay £1 10s towards the cost of placing an invert in Arthur-street if the Council would undertake the work. Resolved that the offer of ihe School Committee be accepted.—The Christchurch City Council wrote pointing out the monopoly enjoyed by the Christchurch Gas Company, and requested the Council to induce their member to support a Bill which they intend to introduce during the present session. Resolved that Sir G. M. O'Rorke be requested to support the Bill.
Gas Com_an_ Bill.—A copy of the Auckland Gas Company's Bill was received and read.—Resolved that the receipt of the Bill be acknowledged, and that the Council take no action in the matter.
Fire Brigade. — Messrs Boylan and Vogan submibted the plans and specifications for the necessary plant required for a fire brigade.—lb was resolved to call for tenders for the supply of the requisite appliances. Cemetery Site.—Mr Ernest Hill wrote offering 20 or 60 acres of land in Epsom, near the Anglican Church, for a cemetery, afc £150 an acre.—Resolved thab the Council is not in a position to accept his offer. TiHdbrs for Handcart.—Three tenders were received for bhe supply of a handcart: Mr J. Mclnbyre, £5 Iss ; D. Foster, £410s; and A. Jones, £9 10s.—None of the tenders were accepted. Reports.—The Inspector of Nuisances submittedhis monthly report, which showed tbat the health of the borough was satisfactory.—The Council agreed to have two hundred copies of the local Cemetery Bill printed and forwarded to Sir G. M. O'Rorke for distribution. Borough "Fw-^d.— Credit balance, £1,100 3s 3d. Several accounts were passed for payment. . The Council adjourned till Tuesday, July 2.
