FOLLOWING A HUSBAND.

A respectable-looking man named John Keough appeared at the Police Court this morning before Dr. Giles., KM. He was charged wibh having unlawfully deserted, his wife, Sarah Frances Keough, and left her without adequate means of support at; Auckland on the 22nd of April.

Prisoner said : "Yes, I lefb Sydney for here. I did nob deserb her. lam not. guilty of the charge."

SergeanbMajor Pratt asked for a remand until to-morrow, as bhe wife had engaged a solicitor, and owing to the holiday his office was closed.

The accused said he had no objection to the remand, which was accordingly granted, bail being enlarged.

Itv was then getting late, and as the Mariposa left again ab 2 p.m. Tuohy at once drove in lthe direction of bhe wharf. En. route.. Mrs Keough descried her husband, also; making towards tho wharf. He was ab; once arrested and driven back to the polic©: station. Upon being searched, gold,notes,: and letters of credit were found bo the value-1 of £400. Mrs Keough, however, states' that her husband is worth from £15,000 to; £16,000 as he possessed valuable property: ab Gympie, Tuohy next went to thai steamer in company wibh Keough and took' ; off his baggage which was already on board.; j Although middle-aged the couple wore only,' married recently.
