PAYING THE PIPER.

A WARNING TO CREDITORS,

(bytelegraph.— own correspondent.)

Christchurch, this day. Yesterday, Mr Whitford, R.M., gave judgment in an action brought by the Go" vernment to recover £24, part of the cosj. of arresting and detaining the Rev. W. Radcliffe at Adelaide, at the instigation of his creditors. Mr Martin, for the Government, contended that the creditors were liable for such costs. Mr Gresson, for tho creditors, argued that the greater portion of the expense had been caused by the blundvrinjj of the authorities in Adelaide. The Bench was of opinion thatthe£l3incured inremandir.gand rearrestineßadcliffe was incurred through tho mh-managementofthoauthorities in Adelaide and was not chargeable to the defendant. On tho other hand items amounting to £11, including legal advice to Constable Stunner, were fairly chargeable to the defendant, as representing the creditors. Judgment for that amount and costs of Court was given.
