INTERVIEW WITH MR PARKES.
GOLD AND SILVER AT KATKATI.

Te Aroea, this day. To-r»AY's "Te Arohaand OhinemuriNews," in a, long article giving particulars of an interview with Mr Alexander Parkes respecting his recent trip to Katikati, tauranga, Hot Lakes district, etc., and bis work generally, reports Mr Parkes as stating that at Katikati he obtained some specimen quartz, valuable in both gold and silver. He saw many indications which lead him to believe that a portion of the ranges is w«dl wonh tlaorongh prospecting and will develop a payable goldfield. After referring generally to his visit to the Hot Lakes district he states he brought away a large quantity of specimens for shipment to his house in London, including efflorescent sulphur, silica, obsidian, etc. Respecting smelting operations he states he will return to Karangahake on Monday and resume the superintendence of the operations, about a week after which he (Mr Parkes) must proceed to Queensland under engagement to a largo company to superintend the erection of works for the reduction of gold and silver ore. He states positively that he will return as early as possible to Te Aroha to erect furnaces for the treatment of Tui and any other ores in that district, and that the preliminary work will be proceeded with durSng his absence.
