FIRE AT ROTORUA.

SANATORIUM HOSPITAL DESTROYED.

A PATIENT BREAKS HIS LEG.

RotorU-, this day. The Hospital attached to the Sanatorium was burned down last night at half-past 10' The whole building was destroyed in abou* an hour, although there was plenty of water available. As usual, the fire plug could not be found. The patients were rescued. The work was, however, of great difficulty. One poor follow, a patient, broke his leg in escaping. The loss to the Government is about £5,000. Mrs Taylor, the matron, and the patients are heavy losers.

The Government have received the following telegram from Dr. Girdler's Medical Officer in charge at Rotorua • — "The Sanatorium buildings and Maori Hospitals were totally destroyed by fire last nieht at 10.30. The pabientswere all right. Nothing wa6 saved. The outbuildings, doctors houses' and blue bath were uninjuied. The fire originated mi the kitchen, but the cause is unknown Pit present. A southerly gale spread the fire with immense rapidity.
