SAILORS GRIEVANCES.
NO SOAP OR POCKET MONEY.

Blenheim, this day. Five sailors of the ship Clairmont, at Picton, refused duty, and were given infco custody by the captaih. The Mayor went with the men and the captain to the Courthouse. The men complained Of not being allowed soap, etc., and thought they ought to be allowed pocket money in port. At present they were allowed none. They also comp ained of the hours and of having to work tho caroo. The captain states that he could compel them fco work at any time and would allow no spending of money in port until leaving. The Mayor said ifc was rather hard, but he could not compel the He advised them to obtain legal advice and asked theieaptain to release them until.two o'clock. If the dispute is not settled then they will agaira be taken into custody for insubordination.
