ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
The spring show held at tho Drill-shed under the auspices of the Royal Horticultural Society was well attonded las fc evening, and again this afternoon. At the opening of the show yesterday afternoon, His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. Devore) spoke forcibly with respect to the lack of interest taken by residents in these and kindred exhibitions. Mr Devore said it was remarkable that the people of Auckland had for many years past neglected to support these and kindred societies. They forgot to become subscribers, and forgot sometimes to pay their subscriptions. Some subscribers omitted to exhibit, and this was the greatest misfortune of all. Hi- Worship then went on to remark that in one particular this show was superior to any held for years past, the =how of vegetables being excellent, lie trusted that the Society, and particularly this exhibition, would be well patronised, because its object was to promote the cultivation of vegetables, fruit 3 and flowers, for tho benefit of all and not for profit to the Society. _-_-.
