UNIVERSITY TENNIS CLUB.
A meeting was held at the University lec-ture-room, Admiralty House, last evening, when it was decided to form a University Tennis Club, and to open negotiations with the Auckland Bowling Club for the lease of to their tennis grounds. It was decided not confine membership to University students (members being pro forma nominated by students) and members of last year's Bowling Green Tennis Club will be invited to join. The following were elected a provisional Committee to canvass for members and to make arrangements for forming the club :— Messrs Battley, Carter, Downes, Gledhill, McCallum, McGill, Maclaurin, Wilson, Withy, Wooller, and Baume. It was stated that between thirty and forty had signified their intention of joining the clubjincluding several good players, and the names of others wishing to join will be received by any member of the Committee. The subscription will probably be a guinea for gentlemen and half-a-guinea for ladies. As the grounds are the most central and convenient in Auckland, a strong club will no doubt be formed.
