THAMES MINING EXHIBITS FOR MELBOURNE EXHIBITION.

Thames, this day. A __jblio meeting was held at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon to consider a telegram frojn Mr Seddon, Chairman of the Goldfields Committee of the House of Representatives, urging that steps should be, Wken to have this districb ' represented at the Melbourne Exhibition by mining exhibits. It was ■ suggested t' hat each Company should forward a parcel of one ton of quartz. There were about 'thirty gentlemen present, bub comparatively little interest was taken in the matter. The apathy of the Government when a meeting'was held for this purpose a few months ago was referred to, and it was mentioned that when the Town Clerk had written to them inquiring what expenses would be .allowed, the Government had then only decided _to guarantee £6 towards obtaining and forwarding exhibits. Several mine managers 'present stated that they could not undertakato break out and send away quartz from their mine withobt the consent of the directors, and it was ultimately resolved to adjourn the meeting until to-morrow toiallow; the managers to communicate with the director, on the subject.-;
