BOROUGH ELECTION. The election for Borough Councillor yesterday excited considerable interest. Mr Joseph Frear was elected, polling 65 votes ao-ainst Mr John Parr's 44. QUARTZ FROM TUHUA. Quartz from Tuhua, found by Bond and party, is exhibited here. It is not thought much of by experienced men;

RIFLE MATCH. The rifle match, Hamilton Volunteers Band versus Company, resulted in favour of the Company by 21 points. THE DEFAULTING BANK CLERK.

Porter, the b'mk defaulter, was brought up yesterday, ay Cambridge, and committed for trial. Mr Hay, who defended, reserved his defence.
