OUR GOLDFIELDS
Thames, this day. Cambeia. — The prospects of this mine have improved considerably during the lasb day or two, as, in addition to the fact that strong colours of _ gold have been observed in the main reef in the crosscut at No. 4 level, colours of the precious metal are also seen freely distributed through the hanging-wall portion of the same lode at the intermediate level, where the sinking of a winze has just been commenced. In the crosscut at No. 4 level it ie impossible to determine whether it is the hangingwall or the footwall of the main reef thab now occupies the face, as this lode is lying very flat and a " break :: is evidently being passed through- The drive is still penetrating the quartz, which is of a very favourable description, and colours of gold were again seen when breaking down on Saturday. Operations are at a standstill until to-morrow, as the annual inspection of the boiler is now taking place.
TRENTON, —The contractors are making slow progress with the sinking of the shaft, as the country continues hard rock.
