YACHT ACCIDENT.

THE CHRISTINA'S MAST CARRIED

AWAY.

ONE OF THE CREW SERIOUSLY

INJURED.

An unfortunate accident happened t Q the large yacht Christina soon after the start of the race in which she was competing this morning. She passed the North Head abreast of the May, and it then became necessary to jibe, while in the act of jibeing the mast was carried away about 15 feet from the deck, and brought with it the whole of the canvas. A splinter struck PeterO'Carroll, orFrenchy, on theorownof the head, causinga very severe wound which subsequently necessitated his removal to the Hospital. The yacht was looked upon as a certain winner of the large fishing boat race, the prize in this event having fallen to her lot repeatedly. She was, of course, unable to continue the contest, and was towed back to harbour by the Osprey and subsequently moored alongside the Queen-street Wharf, where she engaged a great deal of attention during the remainder of the day.
