TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB SUMMER MEETING.

The first day's racing in connection with the Summer Meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club is taking place this afternoon on their pretty little course at the North Shore. In the early part of the morning there were fears that rain would fall, but the dark clouds soon cleared away again, and a more pleasant day could not have been desired. The racing track, though very hard, is in good order.

The attendance on the course is fair. The Devonport brass band is stationed on its usual place on the lawn. Maiden Plate. Miss Alice (Durston) ... „. 1 Mantilla (Bell) ... " 2 These were the only starters. Miss Alice was quickest on her legs, and being never headed, won in a common canter by two lengths. There were only six investors on the totalisator; five being on the winner. Dividend, £1 Is.
