POINT RESOLUTION.
REPORT OF PETITIONS
COMMITTEE,
THE PROPERTY SHOULD BE
RESTORED.
BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.
Wellington, this day. The Petitions Committee had under consideration to-day the Kissling land purchase affair at Point Resolution, in Auck' land. They have come to the following decision : —" As the evidence appears to show that a larger area than was required for defence purposes was taken by the Government by a» rangement with the lessee, and the balancenot wanted conveyed to him to the injury of the trust, and that thereby the trust lost the whole of the property, receiving in compensation a sum of £632, the Committee is of opinion that the case should be inquired Into by the Government with a view to restoring if possible the trust to the position ifc would have occupied had the Government taken only the portion of the land actually required for defence purposes." Sir George Grey now intends to bring in a bill if the Government will not do so.
