DEVONPORT FIRE BRIGADE
The adjourned public meeting of residents interested in the formation of a fire brigade in Devon port took place last night in the Borough Council Offices. There : wae a moderate attendance, the Mayor presiding.
The chairman informed the meeting that Mr Robert W. Buchanan and himself had waited upon the Insurance Association, and the Association had voted the sum of £12 as a. donation to the Brigade, on condition that it shall be under the'control of the Mayor and Corporation of Devonpcrt.—The Secretary was instructed to write to the Association accepting the offer and tendering; thanks for the same. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Mr Owens, it was resolved that the name of the Brigade be " The Devonport Fire Brigade and Salvage Corps," and ib was further resolved that those whose names had been givea in be the members of the Brigade. James Gusson's name was given as an additional member.
Mr 0. Mays offered to hand over to the Brigade the sum that would be saved through the reduction of his premiums. Messrs Fulljames, Sibbin, and Lilewall were appointed a committee to ascertain cost of plant, and to ask Mr An sell to act as instructor and honorary captain of the Brigade. Mr Dinsdnle was authorised to open an account with the National Bank, cheques to be signed by Messrs Dingdale and John Lilewall.
Votes of thanks were passed to the Mayor as Chairman, and for his efforts in promoting the success of the Brigade, and to Mr Dinsdale for his painstaking efforts and services.
The meeting then adjourned till Friday, the 25th inst., when the election of officers will take place.
