THAMES NOTES.
THE MINING ACT.
(bt telegraph—own correspondent. )
Thames, this day. A rcßLic meeting of miners and other s interested is to be held on Monday night to consider the present Mining Act re granting of long leases. Considerable misapprehension exists regarding the land marked off by the various parties at Maritoto. I saw the Warden today re the matter, and he states that tke whole of the parties who applied for licensed holdings withdrew their applications on the 11th instant, and took up land under miners' rights, which at once gave them a title without coming before the Warden's Court. The claims are now fully manned or should be. The cricket match Thames v. Holland (Auckland) is proceeding at Parawai to-day. The visitors are favourites. The weather is fine.
