BORING FOR COAL AT BIRKENHEAD.

For a year past Mr Witherford has been expecting to hear from the mines department respecting the diamond drills three of which were imported from America by the Government, all of these have been monopolised by the bouth although Mr Witheford had tho promise of one to continue boring operations for coal at Birkenhead. To-day the following telegram was received from Mr Peacock who has been interesting himself to imd out what had became of the drills, and why such could not be had for use in the Auckland provincial district as well as in the boutn. '' To J. H. Witheford. The drill is at Dunedin now available. Gordon requires you to pay freight to Auckland and one month s hire in advance. — Thomas Peacock.; It will thus be seen that Mr Witheford is giving his attention to what may lead to a wonderful development of the Birkenhead district.
