HARBOUR BOARD.
The fortnightly meeting is taking place this afternoon. Present: Messrs Niccol (in the chair), Phillipps, Henderson, McKenzio, Nathan, Winks and La Roche.
Cokkkspoxdk.n'je.—Letters were received and dispos-cd of as follows:—From Brisbane Harbour Department, forwarding notice to mariners re rock in Torres Strait. From Marine Department, Wellington, assenting to Board's definition of limits of ferry jetty and Good's Wharf. From City Council notifying reference to Streets Committee of plan of proposed road on western side of Freeman's Bay. From Lyttelton Harbour Board re dredge barges they offer for sale. From J. Scotfc stating terms on which he would be willing to continue to act as dredge master. From Whituker and Russell enclosing a letter from Mr Mupuire's solicitor, expressing surprise at the small amount offered for haulage, and tho disallowance of £70 for laying of rails wherefore Whitaker and Russell on behalf of Frozen Meat Company, suggested the desirability of an interview between Maguire and Board's Engineer.— From C. Sain ty stating in reply to Board that he issempbyed by MrComptonbutthatif Board would provide him with a boat and crow ho would be quite willing to pilot the mail steamers. Circular from T. B. Hannaford re "the Hannaford light;" also letter thanking Hoard for inspecting same. From Secretary of North Shore Ferry Company, asking to bo informed of instances of alleged irregularity in running of p.s. Eagle, as with two exceptions caused by accidents she had adhered to advertised timetable. From W. Webster, applying on behalf of A. and N.S. Ferry Company for the use of an office on Victoria Wharf, Devon port. Works and Tariff Committkk. —This Committee reported : (1) That consideration of application for reduction of wharfage on provincial coal be deferred until the tariff is under consideration: (2) that J. Scott's resignation as dredge master be accepted, and that engineer's recommendation re electric light for dredger be not adopted. (3) That tho chains required for dredger be indented through Motrin and Co., the contractors for tho supply of chains etc. (4) That Fraser and Sons' ofler to supply pins and bucket links bo accepted. Finance and Lkoal Committee.—This Committee reported :—(1) lie unauthorised expenditure on extras for Calliope Dock, matter be referred to Board for decision. (2) That tho right of occupation of allotments in Custom-street West bo granted subject to one month's notioo at same rentals as were paid. (3) That in view of tho opinion expressed by tho Board's solicitors, tho Committee cannot recommend that tho prayer of Customs-street leaseholders be acceded to. (4) That the application for rebate of dues on Maria Virginia be not acceded to. (5) That tho agreement with MrLanigan in reference to ufao of Dredger 121 bo approved.
