HARBOUR BOARD.
Correspondence.— As in our last issue wes gave an epitome of the correspondence received it will suffice now to state how i was dealt with.--Whangarei Coal Company : Agreed to inform them when wharfage question is before Works and Tariffs Committee. Letters of New Zealand Timber Company: Customs-street leaseholders, trustees of D. H. McKenzie'e estate, and J. Scott (dredge master), referred to Finance and Legal Committee, and Engineer's reports re dredging and necessity of providing chain and other dredging goal , at a cost of £539 19s to Works and Tariff Committee.—Union .Steamship Company re pilotage, referred- to Mr • Crompton ■ for pilot, and if lie declines, Company to communicate with Chairman.—Gas Company's proposals re Freeman's Bay, Foreshore Koad, agreed to, subject to City Council's approval and practicability of levels beingcarried out. —J. J. Haslam. — Pontoon to receive consideration when punts have to be increased.—Hokianga Sawmill Company. —Agreed to purchase any of timber found to be suitable.—A. and N.S. Ferry Company. —re erection oiiice and waiting-room. — Agreed to on condition latter to be used by public generally. T. B. Hannaford— resolved to inspect patent light to-morrow at 3 p.m. Alex. Alison, complaint re " Eagle' , —resolved to inform Auckland and North Shore Ferry Company that unless time-table is adhered to their license will be suspended. Works anj> Tariff Committee.—This Committee recommended : — " (1) That A. and N. S. F. Co.'s timetable be approved. (2) That western berth on ferry jetty be alloted to Devonport Ferry Company, and eastern berth to A. aud N. S. F. Co. (3)
That A, and N. 8. F. Co. bo allowed to erect a temporary office on Queen-street wharf. (4) That leave be given to construct a roadway from Mechanics' Bay to St. George's Bay. (5) That Mr Bartley be informed that dockyard fence cannot be removed. (6) That the Harbour Master take soundings and report upon effect of dredging betwaen Railway Wharf and Hobson-streeb Wharf. (7) _ That no action be taken at present re iitting up of Alpha dredger. (8) That Lyttelton Harbour Board be communicated with re hopper barges and Otago Harbour Board re cost of silt boxes. (9) That application be made for City Engineer's estimate of cost of forming kerbing and channeling Quayfetrect. The report was adopted. Financial and Legal Committee.—This Committee recommended: (1) That the consideration of Fraser and Son's account for extras, etc., Calliope Dock, be deferred till next Committee meeting. (2) That the Frozen Meat Company bo informed that the Board is prepared to oiler without prejudice, and as payment in full of all demands made by MeGuiro on account of the railway reclamation contract, the sum of X 340, and to remit all time penalties which may beduefrom the contractor to the Board. (3) That in future all accounts to bo submitted to the Committee be forwarded to the Treasurer not later than noon on day of committee meeting.—The Mayor explained re clause, that Fraser and Son's account for extras to dock amounted to ,£6OO odd. The work hud been given to Eraser and Son without reference to the Board.—The report whs adopted.—-It was njyrecd lo nay b'mser and iSon's account if approved by Mr Ware.—The report wan adopted. Tkndiuw.—The following tenders were received for the erection of goodn sheds and oilices at the new ferry jetty -.—Hoywood and Martin, £772; Wm, ii. Smith, i's'26 10s 8d ; A. Watson, £660; F. Duder, £599. The engineer's estimate was £SUO. The lowest tender was accepted.
