BOATING DISASTER FEARED.
FOUR MEN MISSING,
(BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Tauranga, this day. A boat containing four natives left here for Motiti Island on Friday night, and a s they have not reached their destination it is feared that a casualty has occurred. At the time the boat left there was a heavy north-east swell running, with a fresh breeze, and the boat was watched for some time after leaving, as it was felt to be a risky undertaking,- leaving when they did for Motiti. The friends of the missing men have been, out in boats in all directions searching for traces of them, but without avail so far. The Government have instructed the station masters along the coast of the supposed catastrophe, and requested them to keep a sharp look out for the missing boat and its occupants.
Constables have also been despatched to examine the beach for bodies.
